If you’re a big fan of street art, and you happen to be in New York anytime soon I can highly recommend you to do a  tour all the way through Williamsburg and Bushwick; yes the hipster heaven. We had a great guide, Mar, who told us all about the different styles, such as ‘urban art’, ‘guerrilla art’ and ‘neo-graffiti’ and knew basically every artist behind the street art and graffitis.

‘Graffiti Keeps Me Clean’ is the motto of the Bushwick Graffiti & Street Art Tour and when you hear Mar’s stories regarding the backgrounds of these artists and the history of the area this sounds about right. The highlight of the tour is the outdoor street gallery known as the Bushwick Collective, which begins on Jefferson Street and continues on Troutman Street towards Saint Nicholas Avenue. There’re so many pieces of art to see over there, and they vary often, since most of them are being renewed once a year.

Below an impression of the tour. Of course you can walk the area yourself too, but it’s quite cool to hear some background stories and ideas about the works of art. For more information and for other free tours check out Free Tours by Foot. And enjoy!
