PHOTOS: The once in a lifetime trip to Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is qualified as one of the seven new wonders of the world, a candidate on many bucket lists and by far the best visited place in Peru. Perhaps a reason to skip the ancient Inca town altogether you’d think.

Yet, leaving the country without seeing this historical site, would be a bit like exiting Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower. Or Lisbon without eating a pastel de nata. You get the point; MP is the cherry on the Peruvian pie. Moreover, when we were there (april 2018) the area wasn’t so crowded at all. Well, I’ll admit, just a little bit at the entrance in the morning. So come a bit before or after the summer months and you’ll still have that amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience for sure.

Most of the magic in here lies in the fact that the city never was discovered (and thus destroyed) by the Spanish conquistadors.

Apart from that, it’s incredible to imagine how the people moved all of those giant boulders (that fit into one another so perfectly precise) to this high and remote area, in a short period of time.

After the 4-day Salkantay trekking hike – it’s kind of a cliche, but – it really was stunning to see that iconic first glimpse of the famous city, after that curtain of fog finally lifted around 9 am.

Difficult to describe, but pictures will surely help. So have a look in here yourself what a day of climbing those many stairs and encountering all of those llamas in the area does look like!
