I’ve had some fabulous days with Chapo in Berlin last week. Although the weather wasn’t as springlike as we’d hoped for, we were able to walk half of Berlin during the brighter hours of the week, enjoying the ‘Spree vibes’ to the max.

It was the second time that I visited the city together with Chapo.
Personally I think Berlin is both a blessing and a curse for dogs. A blessing in the sense that dogs are very much welcomed everywhere. Streets are broad (great for walks) and you can bring along your pal in the U- and S-Bahn (although you ought to pay an extra ticket for that). Lots of restaurants also have water bowls for the thirsty doggos right outside their doors and Chapo was even welcomed with a smile in most of the shops and cafes. It all felt like the people from Berlin were very open-minded towards pets, although they do avoid petting dogs (German laws forbids that, as a local entrusted me).
Berliner Dom and the Fernsehturm
However, Berlin can also be a curse since there’s lots of glass (and worse) on the ground, especially in the area of Friedrichshain where we were staying. It didn’t help that we arrived on the second of May, just one day after Berlin ignites in its annual May Day ‘celebrations’ that erupt in massive protests and slightly terrifying open air raves. The area seemed smashed to bits.
Nevertheless we were able to find the better spots for walks as well. After chasing loads of pigeons, eating great amounts of currywurst and receiving many belly rubs from my German friends, Chapo was visibly sad when we had to leave. But as I read at some point, sad spelled backwards is das, und das is nicht gut!
Here’s a little gallery of Chapo both this and last year in Berlin! A guide of where to go with a dog (all of these places below in more detail) is coming up 🙂
