The Alps have some of the most amazing sceneries out there. Due to a plethora of pictures I made while skiing and hiking its Swiss slopes I created a visual diary of our stay in February in Nendaz. This small ski town is part of Les Quatre Vallées in Switzerland, one of the biggest ski areas in the country, with the Mont Fort as its highest point (3,328 m / 10,919 ft).
How’s life at 3328 meters above sea level? Pretty peaceful. Apart from the view of dramatically carved mountains like the Matterhorn in the south (the ‘Berg der Berge’) the only thing you may hear is the crackling ice under your feet.
If there’s one thing that calms you down it’ll be the sight of snowy mountain caps and up here it feels like there’s nothing to worry about, apart from your own mind. After all, mountains have a consoling way of relativising our personal sorrows by humbling us with their majestic perspectives. Or as William Hamilton Gibson would say it:
‘Silently, like thoughts that come and go, the snowflakes fall, each one a gem.’
There where few people on the slopes during our trip – especially the first day it often felt like we entered some private ski areas – and apart from that joy, we took doggie Chapo with us too. It was the first time for our tropical stray to experience this huge amount of snow and she clearly loved it, as she was waiting in the morning in front of the window to get out and play (‘don’t eat the yellow snow Chapo!’).
Here’s where to find those gorgeous peaks! ↓
